"Gift For A Loved One" Competition Voting Is Closed!

A big THANK YOU goes out to all of the contestants and for all the people that voted. Officially, as of September 27th, 2011 the voting is closed. Any votes using the “Like” button or write in votes will not be counted towards the final vote.

Many people were amazed by the inspiration shared in the writing and the transformations that were made. Who would have thought that simple milk cartons could create such wonderful pieces of art and be such a meaningful present to a loved one. Many of you have the imagination of Picasso and a heart big enough to warm even the coldest of nights.

Currently, the committee is counting all the votes and deciding the awards.

Hold on tight, your results are coming soon!

And the Winners for the Craft Contest 2010-2011 are...

Congratulations for all the participants who entered in this year’s 2010-2011 Oriental Fusion Handcraft Contest! We had a lot of fun receiving a lot of beautiful and intricate entries which were collected up until the end of January. In total, we received 23 entries spanning from all around the world, including Mexico, USA, and Japan. The voting period took place in the month of February where we asking anyone who is a fan of the Oriental Fusion Handcraft to vote either by Facebook, Email, Voting Ballots, or coming in person to see the crafts firsthand in the office at Reiyukai America and Reiyukai Mexico. The organizing committee collected 400 votes and enjoyed reading the comments and support that everyone was giving to our participants. The love and excitement could be felt as one cycled through the pictures of the crafts on Facebook. In the end, the organizing committee separated all the votes and placed the winners into 5 categories based on their attributes, Most Creative, Best Paper & Pattern, Best Organizer, Facebook Lovers, and Nature Touch Awards. These five handcrafts that were selected are to be recognized as the winners of this year’s contest.

Here are the winners of the contest:

Most Creative Award – Yukie Partos (South Pasadena, CA, USA)

Best Paper & Pattern Award – Leticia Soto (Chicago, IL, USA)

Best Organizer Award – Maria Luisa Basurto Morales (Huixquilucan, Mexico, Mexico)

Facebook Lovers Award – Denise Garza Rivera (Monterrey, Nuevo León, Mexico)

Anime Los Angeles 7 Participation

Oriental Fusion Handcraft @ Anime Los Angeles 7.
With the start of a New Year, many Japanese go to temples to pray for a healthy and positive New Year thinking about keeping friends and family safe. To show their positive wishes, many Japanese pick up Omamori Charms at the temples to provide protection and support to their loved ones.
The Oriental Fusion Handcraft Recycling Workshop wanted to bring this same message to all of the guests attending Anime Los Angeles this year. With a overwhelming response from over 175 guests wanting to participate in our two 3-hour sessions, all the seats were filled with excited happy guests with many others waiting in line to join in on the fun. Guests were allowed to design their own unique Omamori using scraps of Washi paper as well as scraps from modern magazines. Many beautiful and unique designs from the guests can be found at our Facebook page. (Report by Rome Sotelo)
