ArtNight Pasadena 2013 Contest Results

Thank you to all of the guests that came out to visit our art presentation at the Pasadena Public Library for AirNight 2013.  If you were there to experience the magic of the Oriental Fusion HandcraftSM – Recycling Workshop, you witnessed first hand how it feels to be a part of our ongoing workshops.  It was a joy to see the children’s eyes lit up with excitement as they worked side by side with their parents to complete their unique one of a kind Time Capsule.  Adults that participated said that it reminded them of that warm feeling they had in elementary school putting together class projects.  Regardless of their age and experience, everyone who attended had a smile on their face as they felt that community bonding experience that Reiyukai encourages us to explore.

Now, the results you’ve all been waiting for!  At the event we had a guessing game to correctly guess the number of milk cartons used for our mystery craft for the night.

The correct answer is 4 Milk Cartons! (Only Half-Gallon cartons used)

Big congratulations to the 8 winners who wrote down the perfect answer!  You will be contacted shortly by email or phone to receive details to receive 1 month of craft classes for 2 people.

For those who didn’t guess correctly in our contest you can still attend too!  That night we handed our flyer to allow you to have a one time, complimentary workshop.  Give us a call, let us know how many people would like to try it out, and we’ll give you the details to attend our Friday or Saturday workshops.

Keep on designing! Keep on creating!  You never know what you may be good at until you try!  See you all at the next workshop!

Attended One City One Story

For the month of March, the Pasadena Public Library held its “One City, One Story” community reading program which invited the public to come out and become inspired to read through its daily special activities and live performances. Through Reiyukai’s close partnership supporting the arts and community through AirNight Pasadena at the public library, Reiyukai was once again called to action bringing its amazing Oriental Fusion Handcraft -Recycling Workshop. This workshop promotes the idea of recycling by reforming something that is once perceived as trash, and transforming it into something that is useful and helpful to others. This Reiyukai fundamental is directly seen in all the wonderful crafts that we had on display for our recycled craft showcase. Guests that attended were amazed at all the crafts that they saw and became inspired to create one for their very own.

For the demonstration workshop, guests created a custom made basket that utilized recycled milk cartons and Japanese washi paper for the decoration. Reiyukai was grateful to receive volunteers from the Pasadena Public Library that learned the level 1 workshop craft in minutes, and then quickly turned around to help the guests. The skill level needed to attend the workshop ranges from simple cutting to complex precision folds and styling. A five year old girl that attended with her mother couldn’t help but smile as they completed their craft without any struggle at all. (By Rome Sotelo)
